Gene Baur Visits Babson
In early August, an Idaho federal district judge struck down the state’sag-gaglaw, which criminalized undercover photography or filming inside industrial feedlots and slaughterhouses. What most captured my attention about this was the judge’s argument that it violated the First Amendment because“food production is not a private matter.”
A court’s decision to place food production in the public realm is groundbreaking for this country. Bolstered by the public’s increased interested in food-system transparency, it could signal a major shift in how America eats and conducts food business.
